  • central A/C
  • chatting with friends
  • making memories with my favorite people on the other side of the world

It only means one thing...

It only means one thing...
Warm weather in Franklin only means one thing: lots of people out and about in downtown. Shopping, reading, eating, walking and socializing. I love where I live!

Home is where?

This is where I lived when I was born, until about age 6 ...

When I was six we moved here ...

At the age of 17 we moved here ...

Once I graduated I moved FAAAAR from home ...

Then I moved closer to home, but not toooo close, and went to school. This is where I lived my senior year ...

Then there was the last two years ...

And now, once again, I live back where I moved when I was 17 ... which is like a permanent retreat as it's built in the middle of a retreat center. Home sweet home!

I ♥ Indonesia

I love this ministry. And it's incredible to me how God used such a devastating natural disaster to change the course of my life and to change the history of this amazing nation.

For the first time ...

Img_3234I can't believe my mom has never walked down the streets of downtown Franklin during the day. A nice, little stroll. We stopped and walked around for a little mom and daughter time. It was fun to browse through the books in Landmark Booksellers, and grab a pizza at Mellow Mushroom.

Unfortunately, though, our little excursion was cut short by the pressing errands of life, but we'll visit the rest at a later date. I love my little town, with a Pleasantville (or Camelot) feel. You should come visit.

Four days home ...

Well, the unpacking is not finished yet ... I have way too much stuff and I figure it's the best time right now to go through everything. To keep or give away?

Also, I've been hanging out with friends. Went to the pool on Tuesday with my best friend, her sister and two nephews ... so fun! (sorry, no pics)

And then I got to see my best friend Patti and her little baby Audrey yesterday for lunch. (We tried to get a picture, but she would cry whenever we tried to take the picture! HA!) She's too cute!

The next few weeks will be visiting with more friends and just catching up with all the people I've missed over these past few years ... yay!

What are you doing this Monday morning?

Img_3197_2 I'M unpacking!

I arrive safe and sound last night. The family was all there to greet me, except for Stephen (brother #4) who was working. It was great to see them. Jonathan and Emily (brother #1 and his wife) stayed in town just long enough to see me before they headed back to Knoxville. And Daniel (brother #3) left for summer school in Chattanooga this morning.

Mom, Dad, Michael, Daniel, Philip and I went to eat dinner at Franklin Chop House ... Oh FCH, I've missed you! I had the fabulous Southern Fried Chicken Salad ... oh so delicious. Those American portions are HUGE and I couldn't finished it all.

Img_3198I crashed not long after we got home. It's the jet lag crash where no matter how much you want to get out of bed, you can't. And I slept until 7 this morning ... so maybe I'll be on schedule soon.

Now I'm UNPACKING! And I think I'll be doing laundry all week ... and organizing. I have soo much STUFF! Maybe I need to have a garage sale.

Some pictures from saying goodbye:

My colleagues who gave me a sweet going away party ... Love you all!

They made me my FAVORITE Indonesian food: soto mie, a beef based soup with noodles, tomatoes, potatoes, beef, spring rolls with lime juice. YUM!

The Mogot and Linggar families took Lydia and I to lunch the day before I left.

Home di mana?

I nearly lost it today when my Jason-bug ran up to me and grabbed my leg, not letting go, and said over and over again, "I'll miss you, I'll miss you, I'll miss you." What's a girl to do?

My heart is so torn. I've got grading to finish and packing to finish, but I'd rather just curl up into a ball and cry my eyes out.

I don't know where my home is anymore, but I've been listening to those country songs that are soo country, the ones that reach into my heart and touch the part that says home. But now I don't know if I'm Southern or Asian.

At one of my goodbye parties a few nights ago, they kept telling me to remember to come back home (here) ... it truly does feel like home. On the other hand I can't wait to be back in Franklin, spending time with my family and enjoying a hot Tennessee summer with good food, good friends, and good fun.

Why is life so hard sometimes?

BACK WHERE I COME FROM

In the town where I was raised
Clock ticks and the cattle graze
Time passed with amazing grace
Back where I come from.

You can lie on a riverbank
Paint your name on a water tank
Miss count all the beers you drank
Back where I come from.

Back where I come from,
Where Ill be when it is said and done,
Im proud as anyone thats where I come from.

We learned in a Sunday school
Just who made the sun shine through
I know who made the moon shine too
Back where I come from

Blue eyes on a Saturday night
Tan legs in the broad daylight
TV's they were black and white
Back where I come from

Back where I come from,
Where Ill be when it is said and done,
I'm proud as anyone thats where I come from.

Some say its a backwards place
Narrow minds on a narrow race
But I make it a point to say thats where I come from.

Thats where I come from,
Where Ill be when it is said and done,
I'm proud as anyone thats where I come from.

Thats where I come from
I'm an old Tennesseean
I am as proud as any one thats where I come from

Back where I come from

Soon, I'm going home ...

I need you
Like a needle needs a vein
Like my uncle Joe in Oklahoma needs a rain
I need you
Like a lighthouse on the coast
Like the Father and the Son need the Holy Ghost
I need you, OOH I need you
