Sweet Maria

Picture 1
Maria Chapman's funeral just started a few minutes ago. I still don't have the words or the thoughts to wrap my head around what happened.
I know there has been a lot of buzz on the internet since she died on Wednesday night, but all of our talk aside, please just pray for them. God can handle all of our questions and hurts and grief.

Please ask the God of the UNIVERSE to comfort and heal and hold them close today and every day.

May HE be glorified through the broken world we live in.

In lieu of flowers, the Chapmans request any gifts be directed to Shaohannah’s Hope. You can donate to the Maria's Miracle Fund in memory of Maria Chapman. For donations by mail, send to Shaohannah's Hope, c/o Maria's Miracle Fund, PO Box 647, Franklin TN, 37065.
If you would simply like to leave a message for the Chapmans, you can do so on this blog in memory of Maria.

Some thoughts ...

  • Thank you for the de-lurking. I know there are more of you out there ... I see you! But if you want to stay behind your anonymity, then I guess that is OK. But I'd love to know who you are and "meet" you. I have exchanged a few e-mails with Vina from Calgary Canada. She know my pastors here and found my blog doing a search ... and I just added her as a facebook friend! That's what these blogs should be about, building friendships within a  community and not just a one-sided conversation. So, let's be friends, OK? Let me know you're out there!
  • A lot has been going on in my personal life lately, some things just between the Lord and me. It's been so good. Just on Sunday I had a fresh encounter with the Lord and am seeing the Holy Spirit's power in my life in a new way. It's exciting. Something I wrote in my Moleskine on my way home from the gym last night (I get the best revelations while working out).
    • "As I look to leave Indonesia - I am sometimes overwhelmed by the unknown of what I will do next. But I know that God has something amazing for me that will combine all of my dreams and desires, gifts and talents. After all, He brought me here, didn't He?"
  • If you didn't know I was leaving Indonesia to move back home in June, now you know. :)
  • And this tragedy that has happened at Virginia Tech. I've wanted to say something since I heard about it yesterday morning. But words escape me. Praying for comfort and hope. I know God shows up in a crisis and so I know He will be glorified. But the pain, I'm sure, is almost unbearable right now. Words just don't seem adequate. Other bloggers have had a lot more to say:

prayer updates

Update on my knee: thank you all for praying for my knee. As I was going to sleep last night it hit me that I wan't tossing and turning to find a comfortable position for my knee! It wasn't swollen or hurting at all. I have to believe that this is a result of all the prayers for me. Although it's not totally pain free right now, the swelling as almost completely gone and it's not nearly as painful as it was earlier this week. I believe it will be completely healed very soon! Puji Tuhan!

Update on my uncle: I don't know much because there hasn't been much information to come to me lately, but I believe his is still in ICU in Memphis. They still do not know what is wrong with him. Please continue to pray for wisdom for the doctors and rest for him, his wife and the rest of the family. Please pray that his body will be completely healthy again, will be able to fight diseases on it's own and will function the way is body was created to function with all of the God-given resources it needs.

Thank you for your faithfulness!

a petition to prayer

Well it's the middle of the (almost) first whole week of classes and I'm starting to get a feel for my schedule. Monday's are my longest days with 7 hours of in class time, no lunch for me! Then I have four hours on Tuesday, five hours on Wednesday and five hours on Thursday. Friday is my day off and then four more hours of class on Saturday. My schedule is full! But really, I only have to teach three out of the five classes on Thursday, so after Wednesday life will be a little bit more relaxed. It's going to be a busy year.

Please pray for strength and endurance for this year. Over the past holiday I had a nasty cold and still have some symtoms of sore throatness. I also reinjured my knee (have a slight tear in the cartilage from a long time ago, usually doesn't give me any problems) right before I came back. It's not getting any better and I've been having to wrap it every day. I am praying for complete healing and that I will not have to have any surgery! All day on Sunday, God just kept pressing into me that he is the Great Healer and he can heal anything.

Also along the lines of healing, I received an e-mail this morning from my mom that her younger brother had been admitted to ICU in Memphis yesterday. I want to ask for your intense prayer support for him, his wife and my grandparents who are in Memphis with my uncle. He has struggled with sickness for a while now, things I don't completely understand. But right now they don't know what is wrong with him and I just ask that you would pray for complete and total healing for his body, for rest for him, his wife and all others involved, wisdom for the doctors and nurses, just that God's healing hand would be upon his life and body and that he will be completely restored. God is a God of restoration and I believe that it will happen! Please believe and pray with me and my family. I know this may seem small to you, but please pray. It is effective for sure. Thank you!!
